IREC will contribute developing Low Energy Districts within Growsmarter project

Mayors and delegates from a number of European cities and industry leaders gathered in Stockholm last 10th February 2015 to mark the launch of a new 25 million euro project, GrowSmarter, designed to shorten the path towards a more sustainable and environmentally smarter Europe, and expected to create up to 1,500 new jobs.

Stockholm, Cologne and Barcelona will act as ‘lighthouse cities’ within the project, implementing 12 smart city solutions: from advanced information and communication technology and better connected urban mobility, to energy efficiency.

IREC contribution will focus on smart energy solutions with the objective to develop low energy districts in Barcelona in close collaboration with Barcelona Municipality, Gas Natural Fenosa and Schneider Electric. Among others, IREC will work on energy building retrofitting, smart energy management systems and will coordinate the low energy districts activities at the whole project level.

GrowSmarter project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement no 646456.
